LONG LIST OF LEVEL 1 ALTERNATIVES
NYSTA and MNR have developed this Long List of Alternative Elements based on suggestions of alternatives that were submitted by the public during the Scoping period of the review process, which officially began on January 14, 2003 and ended March 4, 2003. These ideas were then added to the many other alternative elements developed from previous studies and the study team’s own work to form the over 150 suggested alternatives and elements on the Long List.
NYSTA and MNR, in coordination with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) conducted three public scoping meetings in mid-January, one each in Westchester, Rockland, and Orange Counties, to solicit public comments on the scope of the study. The public comment period remained open for 45 days following the meetings, with comments invited in writing via U.S. mail or e-mail.
The purpose of the study is to identify and evaluate alternative proposals to address the transportation needs of the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Corridor. It is too early in the study process to determine the outcome. At this stage, the alternatives and elements under discussion are best identified as ideas and concepts that have been submitted by the public for consideration and further review. No decisions have been made regarding the outcome of the study.
