Open Houses - February 27-28, 2007
Overview
More than 500 people attended the Tappan Zee Bridge / I-287 Environmental Review open houses held in Westchester and Rockland counties on February 27 and 28 to learn more about the progress of the study.
The open houses gave the public its first look at the results to date of the ongoing preliminary engineering work for each of the six alternatives under consideration in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). The Project Team was on hand to guide attendees through several displays, including 50-foot-long maps of each of the six alternatives. Posted underneath the large maps were the various sub-options of each alternative under study. (These maps have been revised for the Scoping Update Meetings held February 2008). Display boards that explained the DEIS process and other aspects of the study also were on display. A kiosk showing a Video presentation described the study and the alternatives.
The goal of the open houses was to show the public our “work in progress” and to provide an opportunity to speak directly, one on one, to the Project Team, as well as to ask questions and express concerns. Visitors were given handouts with more information about the project and comment sheets to express their ideas and concerns.
The open houses took place from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the SUNY Purchase Performing Arts Center on February 27 and in the Palisades Mall Adler Community Meeting Room in Nyack on February 28.
